The genus Mycobacterium consists of many species that are wide-ranging in nature. There are a number of obligate human pathogens including Mycobacterium tuberculosis and Mycobacterium leprae that cause TB and Leprosy respectively but also many pathogens of animals.

In addition, there are many environmental mycobacteria (Mycobacteria and Mycobacterium are seen as interchangeable terms in modern classification) that are opportunistic pathogens.

Isopharm can provide a range of services to ensure that the detection and surveillance of these pathogens can help reduce the risk of Nosocomial infections. Recent outbreaks have led to tighter control in specific processes* and the nature of Mycobacteria is likely to more stringent risk reduction.

Rapid Microbiological Methods

Quantitative Polymerase Chain Reaction (qPCR)

Isopharm can provide several different testing methods for Mycobacteria depending on the application; including PCR for ultrafast detection (4hrs).
